Another month, another new record for sales of recreational marijuana.

The state set records across the board in August, according to the latest figures released Tuesday by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, with 1.4 million items of adult-use cannabis sold, $46.7 million to Illinoisans and another $17.2 million to so-called cannabis tourists from out of state, for a total of $64 million.

It was the second straight month topping more than 1 million items moved and $60 million in sales, and the fourth straight month of setting a new sales record.

Record sales mean record tax revenues, with collections typically lagging a month behind sales figures. The state closed in on $20 million in revenue from recreational marijuana with $19.2 million collected in August, and now it can look forward to another record haul in September.
